I've been working on my music library database (finally adding the song-datasets after having completed adding three other kinds of datasets) and wanted to try out the search that had taken quite some work and a bunch of headache to get implemented.
Access crashed when I tried to filter my search.
There are currently 11 song-datasets in my database.
I've tried to somehow get it working and even got some help with it, trying to change the SQL-code but it didn't work.
Soooo...I'm going to make a separate search for every aspect I want to be able to filter my database by. Which means one search is going to turn into at least 4.
At least 4 queries I'll have to fiddle with so it works the way I want it to.
At least 4 sub-forms to make for the search/filter results.
At least 4 forms to make that I can use for filtering the queries.
Don't know if I'm in the mood to untangle and delete the current search and start working on the new system right now. I think not.
#database adventures#fuck it I was so proud of my progress#especially with getting the search done#and especially with making it show datasets that don't have everything filled out

Stan and Ford being off the internet on their sailing trip works out for both of them. For Ford, it lets him avoid new technology and enjoy his old study methods of physical books & journals. For Stan, it means he and his brother can more easily put off resolving the whole fake ID thing.
I imagine they have to get very creative when authorities ask for proof of identity...
I also imagine that, upon discovering online databases (and the sheer amount of scholarly research they hold), Ford goes absolutely WILD
#I like the idea of him being anti-computers and internet#Because he predicted that computers wouldn't be relevant so he probably feels embarrassed#so he'll deny their obvious utility out of stubbornness until something as awesome as databases overrides his bitterness with nerd joy#I also imagined he'd be scared of admitting that there's something very useful and important that HE -- mr GENIUS -- does not understand#I think him outgrowing these kinds of flaws by adventuring with Stanley would be so fun to see :')#stanford pines#stanley pines#sea grunks#gravity falls#stan twins#my words

sorry for the random scp questions I was cleaning put and found my old drawings and was like "huh how would the sea family react to that"
anyways I assume Eclipse was not allowed near 166?
It's okay! It is amusing to search up all the numbers tho, the curse of not being an all-knowledgeable SCP Database :P
Anyway, nope, Eclipse is not allowed to be anywhere near her. Because technically he's a being that was made, and while he is a full on person, his body is still an electrical thing. So he's banned from it, and only distantly studies her in the form of "homework"
#OurEssays#scientist eclipse's adventures#the foundation also can't risk its precious little database

What did you study to work in a lab? Currently applying for uni's myself!
I mean, biology - narrowing down that field came later - but also I wouldn't recommend choosing solely what you think will get you into a laboratory as your major. Every single major - well, at least in STEM, i was never a humanities major so idk - will have access to labs. There are laboratories studying everything you can think of and ten times that you can't. On top of that, a lot of research universities especially have programs to help students find and get into laboratories, knowing that the sheer number and variety is overwhelming.
No matter what, if you go looking, you'll find your way into a lab in which you can have fun.
#my virus-chugging adventures were actually as an undergrad.#due to a long and very fucked up winding road i am technically still an undergrad#but like. i'm working on a paper right now that (if all goes well) will be published.#i kinda-sorta dropped out of college twice. i spent two years hopping between community colleges.#and yet here i am. a scientist with my name in a database next to the virus i discovered.#with (hopefully!) my name on a published paper#and this is even before i get started on the real stuff.#so in other words?#don't worry too much. it's not nearly as rigid as you think it is.#you'll get there.#qna

about the error: the stackexchange people say don't touch it. my advisor says don't touch it. i don't want to touch it.
i think i have to touch it.
#i checked my code's documentation where it mentions the database that's throwing the error#and it doesn't show the thing i think i have to touch which is enabled by default#i know i had to do something to the database last time there was a power outage and the more i look at it#the more i think it was disabling this thing#this is the LAST step i need for processing and my advisor is away on family business#so this all really could not have happened at a better time#adventures in academia!

Mysterious schematics, mainframes, and preventing worldwide destruction in "What If...?"
When I started the second season of What If…?, I didn’t expect that the first episode (entitled “What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?”) would center on mysterious mechanics, data cores, and secrecy! The first season didn’t have it as directly, apart from one episode (“What If…Ultron Won?“) with a scene almost like one out of Raiders of the Lost Ark, although I compared the Watcher to an…

On the one hand, it's excrutiating how many items (including items received last year!) are not in my collections database at the new job. On the other, it means that I can collect a whole bunch of super low hanging collections management fruit by just going through my paper files and putting things into the database. And I can put stuff like, "cataloged 200 items" into my monthly report and feel productive about it.
#Tam's adventures in museuming#Have i seen any of those 200 items?#Absolutely not!#That's a job for later me and also my volunteers#A job that will be made infinitely easier by things being *in the database*

i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.
there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.
anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.
A Better World - create an alternate history timeline
Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game
Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet
Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games
Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones
Infinite Craft - kind of the same as Little Alchemy
ZenGM - simulate sports
Tamajoji - browser-based tamagotchi
IFDB - interactive fiction database (text adventure games)
Written Realms - more text adventure games with a user interface
The Cafe & Diner - mystery game
The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game
Money Simulator - simulate financial decisions
Genesis - text-based adventure/fantasy game
Level 13 - text-based science fiction adventure game
Miniconomy - player driven economy game
Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes
BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators
Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil
Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.
if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.

My favorite crimes Barbara Gordon has committed
Full disclosure, I am considering only New Earth Babs because the other versions are simply inferior. I will ignore the typical masked adventurer crimes she did as Batgirl, like assault, breaking and entering, trespassing, obstructing justice and vigilantism. I will also not really consider the very classic Oracle shenanigans like hacking, accessing some databases she probably shouldn't, stealing from rich criminals to fund her own (kinda criminal) operation, invading privacy and literally doing illegal spy work with Birds of Prey. Because those are boring and I want something that's not just another Tuesday. So, in no particular order:
Changing the light on traffic lights
Stupid and small but I love it. Very iconic and very Barbara-like.
+Extra Helena who has very logical and understandable qualms about Oracle's power and influence

[Birds of Prey (1999) #58]
Blackmailing Catwoman into returning stolen paintings
And threatening to send her money to charities. Catwoman begrudgingly obliged.
I am not too sure about what happened leading to that moment. That comic didn't have a particularly strong story. I think Selina stole them while Barbara was still Batgirl?
Either way, the ending is pretty memorable for me. Ultimate irony - threatening her into returning stolen goods by stealing funds from her.

[Birds of Prey: Catwoman/Oracle]
Making a deal with Gotham City's emergency services
and then using the tech she implemented to override the control of the vehicles when needed. Or, when she wants to. This one instance was because Steph just got shot in the head and didn't really want to end up in an ER where her mother worked, exposing her (third) secret identity. It worked out so yay?
[Batgirl (2009) #6]
Sort of kidnapping Wendy Harris
To be fair, she did it because Calculator, Oracle's arch nemesis and Wendy's father, was endangering her and she did it to protect her but a little more explanation couldn't hurt. But that wouldn't be Barbara without her genial tendency to keep everyone but herself in the dark. I guess she really did keep Wendy in the dark. In the basement.
[Batgirl (2009) #11]
Political corruption
We never get to learn what exactly she did. She just said that many leaders owe her their positions. it sure as hell doesn't sound legal. World-wide corruption? Why not. Entirely too much power for one person to hold. 10/10
Also, I bet you that those power grids aren't exactly controlled legally.
[Birds of Prey (1999) #103]
Blowing up a government facility and getting rid of some evidence
Well, Cass decided to break into a government facility and free a terrorist to prove a point that everyone can change. And in doing so she left them some photo, video and DNA evidence.
Oracle therefore later sent her back there to destroy it, blowing the building up in the process. Oh and she also presumably helped the guy get fake documents but that's not 100% confirmed (Cass said that it's from her friends as she gave them to him).
She really cares about her not-quite-daughter <3

[Batgirl (2000) #17]
Her father/uncle (the Gordon family was kind of a mess after Crisis) might be the commissioner of Gotham but she clearly doesn't respect the law in the slightest. They love eachother, of course, they just don't share the same views on the law.
I simply enjoy how unhinged her methods sometimes usually are and we need to recognise that. Also, while we are at it, get rid of Prime Earth Barbara's characterisation and bring back the competent and sarcastic control-freak.

THE PERFECT MOTHER ― Ultimate 'Mom' DR Scripting Pack ୭ ˚. ᵎᵎ
― ❝ I’ve never seen someone so naturally meant to be a parent ❞
(Anon request! hope u enjoy :3)

↳ 01 ⋆˚✿ Your touch is a cure-all. Whether it’s a scraped knee or a bad day, a simple hand on the back/forehead kiss melts away any discomfort.
↳ 02 ⋆˚✿ You never run out of patience, even for 'silly' things. Spilled juice? Whatever. Endless questions? No problem. A meltdown over something random? Take your time, we’ll figure it out.
↳ 03 ⋆˚✿ You’re immune to getting your hair pulled, earrings yanked, and eyes poked. A toddler could grab a fistful of your hair and yank with full force, and you wouldn’t even flinch.
↳ 04 ⋆˚✿ Your intuition is almost supernatural. You just know when your child is about to get sick or when they’re lying—even before they realize it themselves.
↳ 05 ⋆˚✿ You never forget the small details—you remember everything, from their first words to their small habits or things they love.
↳ 06 ⋆˚✿ Your voice is just so soothing, even other kids fall asleep when you hum—one lullaby verse in, and they’re out like a light.
↳ 07 ⋆˚✿ Everything in balance: you're warm but firm, fun but responsible—your kids respect you without fearing you and trust you without taking advantage.
↳ 08 ⋆˚✿ Cliché advise? never. You don’t hit your kids with generic speeches—you know exactly how to word things so they actually hear you, and in a way it will actually stick with them (positively ofc).
↳ 09 ⋆˚✿ You instantly detect lies without making a big deal out of it—you know the truth but handle it in a way that doesn’t embarrass anyone.
↳ 10 ⋆˚✿ Every child dreads medicine, except yours—either by crushing it up and mixing it or using a distraction, you make medicine actually taste nice.
↳ 11 ⋆˚✿ You give the best hugs, the kind that makes bad days disappear—even when they grow up, they’ll swear nothing feels warmer than being wrapped in your arms.
↳ 12 ⋆˚✿ In your world, yelling, threatening, or bribing aren't a thing—when you say “that’s enough,” it is. Even in the wildest moments, your kids know you mean business.
↳ 13 ⋆˚✿ Cooking while helping with homework while mentally making a grocery list? Effortless.—you’re a multitasking savant, a human embodiment of efficiency, yet you still make it look easy.
↳ 14 ⋆˚✿ No books? No problem. You weave worlds with your words, creating characters and adventures so vivid that your child begs for a sequel.
↳ 15 ⋆˚✿ You have the ability to remember every friend’s name, every teacher’s name, deadlines, etc—without even trying. It’s like your brain is a live database for their world.
↳ 16 ⋆˚✿ You can do the perfect hairstyle in a time record, effortlessly—no lumps, loose strands, or hairs falling out of place.
↳ 17 ⋆˚✿ You can remove stains like a magician. Juice, mud, marker, chocolate—you have a talent for stain removal, making clothes look brand new every time.
↳ 18 ⋆˚✿ Your presence alone can calm down any nervous child. No matter the situation, your kid just needs to hold your hand, and suddenly, everything feels okay.
↳ 19 ⋆˚✿ Before the fever, the sniffles—you just know. It’s like your body syncs with theirs, giving you a head start on medicine.
↳ 20 ⋆˚✿ You always give them just the right amount of responsibility. You push them to be independent but never overwhelm them.
↳ 21 ⋆˚✿ You never let them feel like they’re ‘too much.’ Whether they’re hyper, emotional, quiet, or talkative—you make them feel like who they are is never an inconvenience.
↳ 22 ⋆˚✿ You don’t mold them into a version of you—you give them the freedom to grow, explore, and discover who they are, knowing that no matter where life takes them, they will always have you as home.
